Food preparation left much to be desired

Jan 2020

My daughter and I ate here on February 28, tired from a long trip and eager for delicious French food. We both had the $45 prix fix, but the salad was tasteless and the "duck with crispy skin" had to be returned because the slices resembled raw pork in taste and texture. There was almost no skin. The other choice, fresh bass, was inexplicably bathed in a sweet sauce, masking the taste. On the plus side, this is a lovely, romantic place, albeit expensive. I wish the food was up to the decor.

Beautiful Location on the Water w a High Energy Feel and good French Dishes

This was a great find for our small group of NJ residents and we were immediately taken by its location and seating along the Greenwich Harbor waterway. PArking does get a little crowded but they do have Valet. The day we went they were bursting at the seems and it took some time to get seated. The maitr'd had to yank some people away from other duties to setup our table outside. The outdoor seating is the best if the weather cooperates. Their full bar and expansive wine list were appreciated and the food choices were plentiful, almost too much. Smoke Salmon app($21.00) was divine as were the Prosciutto and shrimp co*cktail all priced in the same area as the Salmon. Our entrees ranged in price from $32.00 to $48.00 the latter being the Lobster Fra Diavolo. Bar and wine selections were pricey but good and the entire experience memorable. Service was a bit off but that was because they were jammed up on a Sunday on a warm and beautiful day.Looking forward to our next trip out there. They also have "Wine Dinners" and Live Entertainment so check out their website

A delightful restaurant on the water and quality food

We love going to L'Escale. The restaurant is on the Connecticut sound and it has great terraces. On a sunny lunch time,. it feels like being on holiday on the water. The staff is very helpful, the menu and the wines diverse and the food is prepared with care. It does have a simplicity and natural ingredients that make it savory.

Stuck in My Craw

A destination lunch gone bad. What a disappointment when a good friend and I took a ride from NJ to supposedly one of the finest restaurants in Connecticut and a week later still annoyed by the letdown. This restaurant has a fabulous ambiance and is at the end of the very tony Greenwich Harbor. One would expect a $60 soup/cheeseburger/soda to be gratifying in a restaurant of this stature. Burger was fair, service below average for a relatively unbusy time. Unbusy valet takes the $5 and doesn't have the good sense to close the car door. The Cheesecake Factory is 1/2 the price and twice as good.

Not what was expected

July 2021

Came here for A special birthday for Judy. It was a rainy night so we couldn't sit outside. The food was just ok. I tried the filet tigon with truffle and foie gras It was not good as they over cooked the foie gras to the point it had burnt taste. No one in the restaurant came to see how our meals were. The lobster fry diablo was good and the cavatelli was excellent. Wasn't happy with a very expensive dinner. The view is the key

A Prelude to Hell

Aug 2020

I rarely provide a negative review, but my experience at this restaurant was abominable. The food was fine - not exceptional - the service great, but as we moved to dessert they (unannounced) rolled back the awning and we sat in direct sunlight and stifling heat. After rolling back the awning, we were offered a seat indoors which we declined for COVID reasons. Won’t be back! Embarrassing that a restaurant of this caliber would act this way, but ...

Rehearsal dinner and Welcome Party

Oct 2021

couples

We hosted a wedding rehearsal dinner for 55 guests and a Welcome party for an additional 75 guests at L’escale. First, I must recognize Michael Merturi , Director of Catering, who was just fantastic to work with. He was helpful, kind and accommodating in the planning and execution of the event. I am so appreciative of his guidance and suggestions. The event leaders and staff were professional, efficient, helpful and so patient!😁. The waterfront setting and the room-terrace were lovely. The food was EXCELLENT in taste, beautifully presented and temperature was perfect! So many people commented on the food, service and beautiful setting. We had several appetizers served at the welcome party and they were all outstanding. The bartenders and co*cktails were great. Overall, it was a perfect evening! A big thank you to all those I worked with at L’escale.

Very Good but not Special

Mar 2020

We recently stopped here and had a nice lunch. The service was excellent and the meals were good but not great. I had a crepe dish with ham and an egg that seemed like very good idea but I felt failed in the execution. It came as a flat crepe with the egg on one edge and the salad on top of the other edge getting warm.

Great Lunch

June 2020

none

Its been at least 5 years since I last dined here so I was looking forward to getting back for a visit. Was given a great outside table overlooking the harbor. Lunch was a combo of appetizers and small plates paired with some good wine. Lobster sliders, shisito peppers, little necks, burger sliders, soft shell crabs. Good desserts too. Service was excellent.

Nice location and conveniently located off I95 and Greenwich train station

Grabbed dinner here with the family. As the hostess seated us, she mentioned the time limit. Didn't set the right town and would have assumed the service would be a little quicker if they wanted our group out quickly. Food here was decent (ordered the bluefin tuna credo, hanger steak, bouillabaisse) and what you would expect from an upscale restaurant. Ended up ordering dessert when one of the other waiters gave us a pass with going slightly over the two hour mark.

Extremely pompous hostess, Natasha.

July 2021

The food was exceptional, service impeccable. The snobby, pompous hostess Natasha, quite another story! Why anyone would put her in the front of the house is astounding to me. Upon arrival, we were told to “sit at the bar, to wait for an outside table.” We did just that, for over a half hour to no avail. Plenty of available tables everywhere outside. She never came to check with us, or seat us. After 1 glass of wine, my husband stood up and had his cc in hand, we were insulted and decided to leave. Only then did the Manager scramble towards us and promptly seated us outside and paid for that glass of wine. We reluctantly stayed, it was all good after that. I witnessed her treating other customers the exact way, like some low life’s. What baby girl didn’t know is that I’m a major food blogger and this is going to go viral in 1 minute. Be very careful who you “judge” young lady. You do not know my story, by a long shot. The yacht parked outside was mine. ❤️

Mothers day ripoff

May 2022

none

I was here for my sister's wedding and the food was average. Very pretty spot. We were booked to come here for Mothers Day prix fixe for dinner. The three course meal I would have ordered any other day would have been $68; today it is $95. How is that a special? We will go someplace else that is more honest with customers.

Excellent food in an elegant environment

June 2021

We went with our relatives who are locals. We felt like we were in Paris. Beautiful dining room although most people opted for the outdoor deck. Service was great, efficient and not intrusive. I had a caesar salad with grilled squid. The salad was generous and just right and the squid cooked perfectly. It came with a dessert of berries and mango sorbet that was the perfect accompaniment for a relatively light and satisfying lunch.

Whether its for a delicious lunch, suburb dinner or just drinks on the deck overlooking the water L'escale is hard to beat. Friendly and knowledgeable staff with an excellent mixture of local and distant patrons. I love this place year round, but in the summer it is the place to be in Greenwich.
